Dr. Richard Piekarz received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the University Hospitals of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He did his fellowship in Medical Oncology at the NCI, where he was also a senior fellow.

Dr. Piekarz is board certified in both internal medicine and medical oncology. He is the recipient of the NCI Senior Fellowship Training Award and 2002 ASCO Merit Award. Dr. Piekarz became a Staff Clinician at the NCI in September 2003. He has written and contributed to articles in several peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Biological Chemistry, Current Pharmaceutical Design, Clinical Cancer Research, Blood, The Cancer Journal, and Biochemical Pharmacology.
