Primary Eligibility:

  • ≥ 18 years of age
  • Individuals with:
    • Family history of neoplasia(s) of an unusual type, pattern, or number which includes breast cancer (BC) or is consistent with an identified or suspected familial cancer syndrome which includes BC and/or ovarian cancer (OC)
    • Personal history of neoplasia(s) or benign conditions of an unusual type or with unusual demographic features (young age of onset, multiple primary sites, rare pathologic tumor type) consistent with a familial cancer syndrome which includes BC and/or OC
    • Known mutation associated with a hereditary breast/ovarian cancer syndrome
  • For familial syndromes in which no gene has been identified, two or more living affected cases are required
  • Cancer diagnoses must be verifiable

Study Outline:

  • Medical/vital/pathology records are reviewed
  • Participants complete a questionnaire
  • Participants may undergo clinical evaluations and are monitored prospectively by mail or telephone contact
  • Participants are asked to donate biospecimens for analyses of cancer etiology and mechanisms of carcinogenesis
  • Clinical genetic testing is offered, consistent with ASCO guidelines (genetic testing is optional and is not required for other protocol aspects)
  • The study does not offer anti-cancer therapy; assistance to participants who require treatment for problems that develop during the course of the study is offered

Additional Information:

  • This trial will be conducted at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD. It is open to patients who meet the eligibility requirements, regardless of where they live in the United States.
